Build American AI Names Nathan Leamer Executive Director to Drive Innovation and National Leadership

WASHINGTON, D.C., November 13, 2025 – Build American AI, an organization dedicated to advancing policies that ensure U.S. leadership in artificial intelligence innovation and infrastructure, today announced the appointment of Nathan Leamer as its first Executive Director.

Build American AI is the strategic policy partner organization of Leading the Future, the national political operation committed to ensuring the United States maintains its global leadership in AI. BAAI will invest millions of dollars in advocacy, public education, and media campaigns to promote a clear, pro-American AI agenda that drives economic growth, strengthens national security, protects the safety of users, and ensures the benefits of artificial intelligence are realized by American workers and families.

The organization will also play a leading role in countering false narratives and misinformation pushed by well-funded ideological interests determined to slow AI innovation and cede American leadership to foreign competitors.

Leamer brings extensive experience at the intersection of technology and policy, including years of service advancing key reforms in broadband and digital infrastructure. As Executive Director, he will lead Build American AI’s strategy to promote a cohesive, national regulatory framework for AI, countering the "regulatory patchwork nightmare" of conflicting state-level rules that threaten to stifle innovation.

“I’m honored to lead Build American AI at this pivotal moment. Artificial intelligence is the next great engine of American ingenuity,” said Leamer. “If we create a unified national framework instead of a patchwork of conflicting rules, AI can fuel the next era of prosperity. I look forward to working alongside policymakers and entrepreneurs to pull in the same direction towards that goal.”

Nathan Leamer currently serves as the CEO of Fixed Gear Strategies, a boutique consulting firm in Washington, D.C. He previously served as Policy Advisor to Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai, where he played a key role in developing initiatives to close the digital divide and advance reforms in broadband and spectrum policy. Prior to his FCC tenure, Leamer was a Senior Fellow at the R Street Institute, focusing on emerging technology and internet governance issues, and began his career as a Legislative Aide in the U.S. House of Representatives. He is a graduate of Calvin University.
